ComedyPRO Announces Four Winners Of Prestigious Just For Laughs Awards

Amy Poehler: Comedy Person of the Year
Edgar Wright: Comedy Director of the Year
Mitch Hurwitz: Comedy Writer of the Year
Nick Kroll: Breakout Comedy Star of the Year

Montreal, Thursday, June 13, 2013Amy Poehler, one of Hollywood’s most versatile and sought-after talents, will be in attendance, live and in the flesh, at the 6th annual Just For Laughs ComedyPRO conference on July 26th. The star of the critically acclaimed NBC comedy series, Parks and Recreation, will receive Just For Laughs’ top award: the Just For Laughs Comedy Person of the Year Award.

Award-winning filmmaker Edgar Wright is best known for his UK series turned international cult phenomenon Spaced, the rom-zom-com Shaun of the Dead, the action/comedy opus Hot Fuzz, and the acclaimed comic book adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Wright will receive the Just For Laughs Comedy Director of the Year Award shortly before the debut of his latest feature-length film, The World’s End.

Mitch Hurwitz is an Emmy®, TCA, and WGA Award-winning writer and producer, best known as the creator and Executive Producer of the genre- breaking television show Arrested Development. Hurwitz will receive the Just For Laughs Comedy Writer of the Year Award for his work on the new season of Arrested Development. In addition, Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix, will join Hurwitz for “In Conversation with Mitch Hurwitz” at the Hyatt Regency Montreal on Thursday, July 25th at 3:15 pm.

Nick Kroll, creator and star of Comedy Central’s critically acclaimed series Kroll Show, and star of FX’s The League, will receive the Just For Laughs Breakout Comedy Star of the Year Award. Previous winners have included Aziz Ansari, Ken Jeong and Key & Peele.

All four awards will be handed out at the Just For Laughs Awards Show, presented by the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, at the Hyatt Regency Montreal on Friday, July 26th at 5:00 pm. Jeff Ross, the Roastmaster General, and the creator and star of The Burn With Jeff Ross on Comedy Central, returns to host this year’s awards show. It’s gonna be a blast!

Three New Festival Announcements: Chris HardwickNerdist Industries, founder of , host of AMC’s Talking Dead and self-confessed former juggler, will host two Talk of the Fest shows at Club Soda on July 23rd. Former Saturday Night Live writer and producer, John Mulaney, hot off his hit Comedy Central Special New In Town, will perform his solo show at Astral on July 25th. ComedyPRO Awards host Jeff Ross will also host two Talk of the Fest shows at Club Soda on July 26th.
