Winners of the 2014 ComedyPRO Pitch Program Announced
July 26, 2014
Jarred Christmas, a comedian from New Zealand who now lives and works in the United Kingdom is the winner of From Set to Screen: The TV Comedy Search at this year’s Just For Laughs ComedyPRO conference. Christmas won for The Peter Trials, co-written with UK comedian Steve Williams, a slightly surreal sit-com about a good man wrongly sent to hell who must beat the devil at his own game in order to get out. Jarred will be an Official Artist at the 2014 New York Television Festival in October, just one of the perks of being a comedy pitch champion. This isn’t the first win for Jarred who is a recipient of a Chortle Comedy Award (UK).
Some might say that new motherhood is an equally hellish realm, but for sketch comedians, Nadine Djoury and Aurora Browne, it was what catapulted them to win the Pitch ‘Til Your Sides Split program. The duo won for Newborn Moms, the comedic untold story of what it’s like to be a new parent and the hardship and hilarity of the modern day mom. Nadine and Aurora will receive a full-year membership in the International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV) as well as a pair of tickets to the 2015 IAWTV Awards, held in conjunction with CES in Las Vegas. They also receive an option agreement from Defy Media.
Each winner had 5 minutes to pitch their project before a panel of industry experts.
From Set to Screen: The TV Comedy Search and Pitch ‘Til Your Sides Split: Web Series Pitch Program are presented by the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.
