April 21, 2015 [Montreal, PQ] — CBC Punchline, Canada’s online comedy channel, joins Just For Laughs and the International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV) as a sponsor for the 2015 edition of Beyond The Box: Playing It Short, a pitch program for web series creators. Fast becoming a magnet for up-and-coming web series talent as well as video stars such as Epic Lloyd (Epic Rap Battles), Beyond The Box: Playing It Short offers comedy creators a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get in front of online industry execs from the major digital platforms.

“Just For Laughs ComedyPRO is the premier place to pitch digital-first decision-makers,” said ComedyPRO’s Director, Paul Ronca. “Our partnership with a leading Canadian platform such as CBC Punchline allows us to broaden our offering to web series creators.”

”ComedyPRO and Beyond The Box: Playing It Short meshes really well with what we’re doing at CBC Punchline, so being a part of this is a natural fit for us,” said Michelle Daly, senior director, comedy, CBC. “CBC Punchline’s existing content and upcoming offerings put the spotlight on the vast comedic talent that exists here in Canada and elevating the work of more funny people is a big part of our digital strategy going forward.”

As part of its sponsorship, CBC Punchline will be helping five finalists get to the pitch event, which takes place Saturday, July 25, 2015 during ComedyPRO, the industry section of the annual Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, presented by Videotron in association with Loto-Québec. CBC Punchline will also award the winner of the pitch with a free trip to the 2016 Just For Laughs Festival and Just For Laughs ComedyPRO conference.

The call for submissions to Beyond the Box: Playing It Short is open to international applicants ages 18 and over. Submissions can be made online at http://comedypro.hahaha.com/pitch-your-project/.

Projects submitted must be digital-first shows with episode lengths no greater than 15 minutes. Pitches can include scripted, animated, factual, variety and sketch — but must be short-form series ideas aimed at digital video platforms. Deadline for submissions is May 8, 2015 at midnight (PT).

Just For Laughs ComedyPRO runs from July 22 – 25, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal.

Early Bird prices are now in effect for industry members (you know who you are) until May 8, 2015 at the ComedyPRO website.
